Network traffic 101: back to basics of website traffic

which is a common problem: your site have spent your time and money, and now it’s just sitting in cyberspace, looks very nice, but did not do anything else . You need more website traffic! So, what can you do to reverse the situation, not only make your website pay for yourself, but also make it bring a decent boost to your business?

There are many ways to get more website traffic, but for a poorly performing website, the first thing you need to do is to check if the infrastructure is in place. If you are building a brand new website, you can do it from the beginning.

First of all, are you using the best keywords? Keyword research is the basis for getting more website traffic. It will give you a complete list of phrases that people use to find sites like yours. You will see how many searches for each keyword or key phrase, and how many other sites you are competing for this phrase. Ideally, you are looking for phrases that are searched for and are highly competitive.

Also do a related word search to find search words that are related to your seed word but do not contain it. For example, searching for “concrete” related terms might show “cement” and “render”. You may find some gems, you can do a vertical search and find a more relevant key phrase.

The more keywords you discover, the more chances you have to find those elusive keywords that are highly competitive but demanding.

I recommend using the subscription keyword tool to get the best results (you really want to get more website traffic, don’t you?).

The second basic principle is to write useful content. When you search online, you are looking for information, right? Your potential customers are too. Give them this information, give them enough information. You will find it easier to get a high search engine ranking and more website traffic, and the visitors you get will be more likely to deal with you.

You will know what to write from your keyword research and your own industry knowledge. What questions do your customers always ask you?

The basic third point is to optimize pages for search engines. Each page should be focused on a keyword, and you need to place “hooks” throughout the page so that search engines know what it is about.

Keywords should be used in page titles, meta descriptions, page titles, and throughout the text. Most experts say that keywords should be around 1-3% of the content. Try to use it in text links.

Don’t overuse keywords, or search engines may treat them as spam and reduce page rankings.

Incoming links, often called back links, are another important part of getting high rankings and more website traffic. Search engines treat high-quality backlinks as a vote on the site. The more votes you have, the higher your ranking. But not all backlinks are the same. The best link is a one-way link from a relevant authoritative website and from a page that does not have many other links. The worst is the mutual link from an unrelated low-quality site, the link to your site is hidden on one page, with hundreds of others.

When your website has about 20 pages of good content, start submitting it to the relevant directory as a good one-way link, and add a good reciprocal link to a quality link exchange program. Do not join link farms or exchange links with spam sites.

If no one clicks on your website, having a high search engine ranking is not a good thing. By writing an attractive headline and meta description, you can double or triple your click-through rate. They should all contain your keywords, and they should also be written as your web ads.

Look at the other titles and descriptions on the search engine results page to see what makes you click. Don’t copy them, but use them for inspiration. Try some of your own changes, and you should be able to come up with something that will increase your click-through rate and get more website traffic. Therefore, if your website traffic is not what you want, go back to your website and check the basic situation. If they are not right, you now know what to do.
