Web site traffic and search engine optimization: Domain Name

Whether for business or personal use, before you have a website, you must have a domain name, and search engine optimization plan the most important step is to choose the right domain name.

So what is a domain name? A domain name is what people give you when you ask for their website. For example, anything.com is a domain name.

Consider the following when choosing a domain name:

Keep it short. If your website is for your business, short domain names have its advantages. Whether you want to print it on a business card or display it on a billboard, making the domain name too long or too complicated, if potential customers have no chance to write it down, it will be difficult for them to read it once or recall it later. One exception is that if you can get a phrase, the phrase will be remembered in the domain name (for example: buytowagetonefree.com)… which leads to the second point.

Make it easy to remember. Until your website has your domain name, or they won’t think about it later. It is important to be short, simple and easy to remember, but you should not usually choose a website like qdipe.com. We will tell you why.

Connect it to your business or organization. If you sell bicycle parts, try to put “bicycle parts” in the domain name. This is not only a thorn in the eyes of netizens, but also search engines. They use various factors to rank the pages they visit, and sometimes words used in the domain can improve the ranking of the page. This leads to another point.

Think about keywords. Although we are not going to discuss meta tags in this article, keywords are very important. Even if almost no search engine looks at the “keyword” meta tag anymore, they are still searching your website content, finding keywords in the text, “alt” tags on images, and “title” tags in anchor text and other links middle. Putting the number 3 and the number 4 together, the best two worlds is to have a business name, which is a keyword or phrase related business, and use it as a domain name.

Cute is good, but. . . ! Some people try to use puns, jokes, word games or combinations of numbers to make their domain names memorable. Be careful. A few years ago, I needed a domain name for weight loss products. I checked all the “short” and “easy to remember” names I could think of, but they were all taken away! Then I thought of the domain name NoDiet4Me. This makes a lot of sense to me! I went to make a magnetic sign for my car, and the lady read it like this… “I’m not’dead’ I” put a lot of accent on the word “dead”, shook her head, her face was worried and confused expression! My website made a lot of money, but I want to know that I lost a lot of website traffic.

Rush or not. There is a lot of discussion about whether to add hyphens in domain names. I cannot answer honestly based on my own experience, because I have used both methods at the same time, but my research seems to have reached a consensus: search engines are better to classify and rank a hyphenated website than to connect words. Sites together are easier. For example: chicken soup and chicken soup.

If you choose to use hyphens, there is a danger that needs to be recognized. You must ensure that it is clearly displayed in any print advertisement or statement, and if the domain name is given orally, do your best to ensure that your audience understands that hyphens must be inserted. Many people don’t know much about the Internet, and they still type “bobsbicycles” after hearing “bobs-dash-bicycles”.

Alphabet soup. Ever wondered what is the best? Should you use .com or .net? Find one. Business or. Can we? What do these things really mean? Does it matter? In today’s world, most people who enter the Internet world are familiar with .com and .net. After that, they tend to get confused. In this country or region, what I do is the domain name of a specific country or region, and I will do business in a specific country or region, not in this country/region. Therefore, in most cases, .tv, .ws or .org are not important. By the way, .tv is the top-level domain name of Tuvalu, a Pacific island country, and .ws is the top-level domain name of Samoa.
Just want to continue discussing the extension. When you pass your domain name to others verbally or in writing, make sure they see or hear the extension. Taking my previous example, simply saying “My website is bobsbicycles” may cause people to just type .com at the end, because this is what they are most used to hearing.

brand. In some cases, a domain name may be associated with an easily recognizable or branded product. Wal-Mart and Ford need not worry too much about details such as keyword density or “easy to remember” names. However, if you are working with a product or company that has been or is branding, some of the information given above about choosing a domain name may not be relevant. I will assume that most people reading this little article are probably trying to do some SEO (search engine optimization) on their own, and one of the best starting points is the domain name itself.
